On behalf of Columbia Business School’s Private Equity and Venture Capital Club and The Private Equity Program, we are delighted to welcome you to our 17th annual Private Equity & Venture Capital Conference.

This year, our conference will draw some 750 alumni, professionals, and students to Lerner Hall for informative discussions on recent opportunities and challenges that have emerged in the private equity and venture capital industries. The purpose of our conference is to educate and provide a forum for interaction between professionals, academics, and students who are active in the private equity and venture capital communities. In addition, as the Club’s largest annual event, the conference seeks to highlight Columbia Business School’s commitment to private equity and venture capital and its position as one of the leading mentors to the next generation of industry talent.

We are pleased to be offering three keynote discussions and six panels featuring private equity and venture capital professionals, their third party advisors, as well as academic professionals from Columbia Business School. By including representatives from a variety of backgrounds, our goal is to present an interesting breadth of perspectives from both industry professionals and academics.

Despite the many challenges that the private equity and venture capital industries are encountering in the aftermath of the “Great Recession,” we are optimistic that several exciting areas for growth are also emerging at a rapid pace. We think that this year’s speakers will provide unique and interesting perspectives on some of these new growth opportunities, as well as realistic and pragmatic views on the issues and challenges that industry participants currently face. This balance of optimism and pragmatism is reflected in our 2011 conference theme: “Navigating New Opportunities and Challenges.”

Finally, we would like to express our sincere gratitude for the participation of each of our speakers, the support of our sponsors, the assistance of Columbia Business School’s faculty and administration, and the counseling and guidance of Professor Donna M. Hitscherich ’90, Director of the Private Equity Program.

We hope that you enjoy this year’s program.
